Associate Director’s Message
Carmel Seva Trust Bidar Unit
In the year 2013, Carmel Seva Trust was started in Mangalore with legal procedures, with vision, mission, values, goals and objectives along with areas of social developmental activities. At this juncture, I happened to be the Principal of Carmel Vocational Training Institute. To give the bright future to the young girls and boys we visited the villages around and observed the poor home conditions of people. Women were idle without jobs, spending time in gossiping, so we started self help groups to motivate the women to work and supplement their family income.
It was indeed a very herculean task to motivate them, come on time for meetings and be regular to save. After regular visits, we were able to get the fruit of our labour almost after 6 years. We started in all 80 SHG groups in 25 villages and addressed various issues through the intervention of women. They were able to get various facilities in their villages such as drainage, electricity, concrete roads, water facility, and access to Govt. facilities etc.
The Carmel Seva Trust, Bidar Unit was started in Mailoor in the year 2017. We started the work with the team of sisters and social workers in 9 villages, 5 Panchayats, of Bidar Taluk. The work began in six thematic areas such as, Integral development of children, women's empowerment, care of the disabled persons, prison ministry, health care and preservation of environment.
This year the integrated development of children was done through tuition classes, celebration of children's day, imparting values, giving them education in nutrition, cultivating good habits and hobbies, inculcating love for their elders, parents, siblings and teachers. Empowerment of women was through strengthening the SHG groups, providing loan facility for self employment. The health care was strengthened through medical camps, cancer screening, Anemia camp, etc. Concern for the disabled persons was shown by getting the pension and other facilities. Care of the environment was through plantation. Railway child line programme was ever active as usual.
We thank the President Sr. Maria Shamita and all the sisters for their support. Grateful thanks to all the staff of CST, benefactors and the collaborators. Special thanks to Rev. Fr Anil Crasta for training, support and guidance. May God bless us all.
