CARMEL SEVA TRUST is a voluntary charitable organization that provides service to the needy, irrespective of caste or creed. It draws its inspiration form Mother Veronica, the founder of the Apostolic Carmel Congregation and is registered under Indian Trust act 1882 of the Indian Registration Act. It was established in the year 2013, by the then Provincial Superior Sr. M. Linette A.C. as President and her team as the Trustees.

The Carmel Seva Trust activities are based on the vision “A Humane and Compassionate Society that promotes Peace, Justice, Fraternity and Human Dignity”. It offers a range of service-learning activities such as school awareness, literacy classes, health and hygiene program in the slum, saving scheme, job placement, health care, vocational training and rehabilitation of differently abled children and adults, personality enhancement, tracing missing children, child labour eradication and ‘Childline service’ for children in distress.

The Head Office of Carmel Seva Trust is based at the Apostolic Carmel Provincial house, Mangalore. It has two units. First one is ‘Veronica Vihar’ at Maryhill, Mangalore in the year 2014 and another one is ‘Carmel Niketan’ Bidar in 2016.

The Provincial Chapter 2013 decided to undertake the care of the differently abled adults on a trial basis. It was housed at Vijaymarie Convent, Maryhill with two inmates. Sr. Maria Jyothi was assigned as the sister in charge and Sr. Marie Dulcine to assist her. Gradually the number of Differently Abled persons seeking proper humane care and shelter increased and there wasn’t sufficient place to accommodate them. Sensing their plight and needs, the Provincial chapter 2016 took a bold step to start a new house solely caring for such persons. The Provincial Superior Sr. Carmel Rita with her team moved forward to set aside a portion of Bala Yesu Nilaya School Campus to put up the building to accommodate 30 inmates in which the sisters also would reside. It was named after the founder of the Apostolic Carmel as “Veronica Vihar”.

At “VERONICA VIHAR”, the Sisters care for the Differently Abled adults’ with personal needs, attend to emergencies, conduct exercise programmes, provide nutritious meals, see to medication management, laundry, assistance with mobility along with the social and recreational facilities. These inmates are thus gradually empowered to enhance their capacity to support themselves in the serene and loving environment in “VERONICA VIHAR”. Veronica Vihar is a completion of the scheme from Early Intervention to care for the adults and elderly

Carmel Seva Trust Mangalore extends its branch of social action at Carmel Niketan, Bidar in the year 2016. Sr. Carmel Rita, the then Provincial Superior, as the chief executive of Carmel Seva Trust handed over the responsibility of Carmel Seva Trust Bidar unit to Sister Christine Misquith who with her untiring zeal, commitment and love moved beyond and almost to the periphery to bring hope and light in the lives of the poor and marginalized people by empowering women, guiding the youth, children, reaching out to prisoners and disabled thus showing wholesome care and concern to the people of Bidar in and around 9 villages and very specially to people of Jamgi Colony..

Carmel Seva Trust has succeeded to uplift the women, youth and children to a great extent by giving them a dignified life. It has tried to build harmonious community with diverse people, religion, language and cultures with access to basic necessities of life in a clean and healthy environment.
